Most Wanted And Missing In Action

I thought I'd take the opportunity to make a shout our for a couple of clips that I've not spotted on YouTube or Google Video yet - but would love to get a look at.

First clip in question is Iggy Pop play sodomising a teddy bear on the UK Saturday morning kid's TV show, Number 73. I saw it at the time and it was funny as heck. It actually caused a minor outrage in the tabloids and demands another viewing! If any one has it and could post it, we would appreciate it. If I remember correctly, he was doing Wild One live (or miming).

Secondly, the most under-rated Hip Hop act of the 90s, New Kingdom. They were live on Channel 4s The Word at some point in the 90s. In fact, if anyone has any New Kingdom videos of any variety, it would be appreciated. I'm sure there's more I could ask for, but at the moment it's slipping my mind. Feel free to add some most wanted on the comments.

Broken Social Scene - Almost Crimes Video

The end of last year was greatly cheered up by Broken Social Scene's album of the same name. It came as a complete surprise as I'd only ever heard their first, more post-rocky and instrumental album, Feels Good Lost. I recently got me hands on their second LP, 2002's You Forgot It In People a couple of weeks ago and haven't been able to get enough of it. They are fast becoming one of my favourite bands of recent years.

Anyway, for me, one of the standout tracks from the album is Almost Crimes, and I spotted a video of it and had to crank it up. The video's nice and straight forward, nothing too pretentious, and the track, absolutely flipping awesome. For some reason this one track reminds me a lot of Arcade Fire - the bass line especially. If you haven't checked out Broken Social Scene, then here's a great starting place.

Ike And Tina Turner - Proud Mary Live

If you don't want to hear me drift into wistful recollections, hit the back button now - otherwise, read on. There were a special couple of months in my teenage life when I worked two jobs, and had enough money to have a bit of fun. Every Saturday I'd finish my job selling fruit and veg, throw some notes in my pocket and head off to meet my friend Mr Chicky. We'd always end up being the first people into Cardiff's Sam's Bar (back when it was a real dive) as the doors opened, and were often there on our own for a while. We'd get a couple of pitchers of Iced Tea (whiskey and coke) and sit back and get the staff to play our favourite video of classic rock performances - you could set your clocks by us.

The tape featured everything from The Byrds and the Beach Boys through to classic early Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd. For me, the end of the tape couldn't come soon enough. It wasn't beacause I didn't like the preceeding performances, to the contrary, I loved many of them. The reason was, this following video was the final track on the compilation, and was the best of the lot. Teenage hormones and hot dancing chicks aside, it's a great track, full of energy and soul, and one I haven't seen since the end of the 80s. Nice to see it's been put up on YouTube, and I'm more than happy to see it again. If anything, it sounds even better now than it did back then. Enjoy.

The Amboy Dukes - Journey To The Center Of The Mind Live

Famed as an early musical outlet for wild man of rock Ted Nugent, the Amboy Dukes were doing some great kick-ass psychedelia circa 1968/69. It could have been a lot more flouncey and weak kneeded psychedelia were it not for the punchy and fuzzy guitar work.

I have to say, I don't know any of Ted Nugent's solo work. I'll have to check it out one day, but I suspect it veers more towards metal and lots of souless, style obsessed playing which just doesn't interest me. That's not on show here though. I think they're miming as well, but it's a great track all the same.

Slowdive - Alison Video

Another band I missed when they were out and about. I've only gotten into Slowdive the last couple of years. The name struck a bell down the years, but I'd never heard their music until I discovered that we shared a song title in 'Catch The Breeze' - wanting to hear their one I got a copy to listen to and was hooked on their sound from the off. Swirling guitars, dubby tints, dreamy vocals and wistful words - what's not to like?

Releasing the bulk of the work in the first half of the 90s, I spent a lot of last year listening to 1993's Souvlaki LP. Today's video is the opening track from said same album. It's not a particularly great video, but the song itself has to be one of my favourites from the past two years (although not from the last two years.) A great feel good song dripped in glistening layers of noise, it never fails to put a smile on my miserable old face.
