I've been passionate about music from an early age, I spend lots of my time listening to it, and at times had attempts at making it. My tastes have always veered away from the mainstream to alternative music. Basically, I love noisy guitar driven stuff, moody music and ethereal noises - or a damn fine mixture of them all.
I don't mind classifying my tastes, it helps me search for more of what I like. If you want to talk about the sort of genres I'll be featuring here, they're listed in the description above. I love finding new music, wether it comes from the local HMV or the a four-track demo put together in someone's bedroom. As long as it moves me, I don't mind where it comes from.
If anything, I feel less commercially driven music is often more exciting. It pushes, it tests, it does what it pleases - its all good in my book!
Recently I was looking around YouTube and almost falling over in glee at their range of obscure videos for bands I'd loved over the decades, but never seen any video of. To finally be able to see bands like The Stooges, Suicide, Electric Prunes and the MC5 playing live brought a whole new intensity to the music, and sparked the idea for this site.
I Love sharing my music and I enjoy writing about music, so why not make a blog to showcase the stuff i love and give me a chance to wax lyrical about the music that has inspired, entertained and moved me over the years. So I did, and this is the result. The Stooges song provided the title for the site, YouTube and other third party providers provide the video, and if I see nice free MP3s and new band's sites, I can feature them as well.
Real Cool Time is my taste and my whim when it comes to music. I'm not saying its better or more advanced than anyone else's as its not, far from it. Sometimes though, it's nice to have a friendly voice to pull interesting stuff out of the mass of media out there for any willing to listen fans of alternative rock and indie. I'm hoping that will be my role here with the site.
