Spaceman 3 - Hypnotized Video
Beep Beep, we're taking a trip down memory lane, if you'd like to depart, do so now. If you're still with us, here's some old favourites of mine, who've not featured here since earliest days of Real Cool Time. Spacemen 3 - a band who music was partially responsible for getting me into music, and whose style we aped mercilously. Trippy, droney and downright out of this world, I still get a shiver when I hear their music.
I can take you back to the first time I heard them, it's one of those moments that sticks in your mind forever. It's 1989, myself and our band's guitarist were both working in a crummy supermarket stacking shelves. We were working late, and it was one of those rare occasions we had the radio on. Out of nowhere this song came on (I think it was the Peel Show) and we literally stopped in our tracks. We walked to the radio listening, transfixed. We didn't know who it was, but it was special - I was aware of the Spacemen 3, but hadn't knowingly heard them. The song played out with its fantastic sax ending and trippy simplicity and the name was announced.
I knew there and then it would be a long term relationship. It was love at first listen, and I'm happy to say we're still going strong to this day. The track playing was today's featured track - Hypnotized. I've never seen the video till now either, it's fairly standard, multilayered, lots of strobing etc. The song still my heart after all these years, and will be remembered by me as one that defined an amazing period in my live when music was the most important thing and what I wanted to do.
