God Speed You Black Emperor - Albanian Live

When I first started trawling YouTube for stuff, I did a look for one of my all time favourite bands, Godspeed You Black Emperor. There wasn't any footage of them up at the time. I had another check this week, and low and behold, they're there now. Ok, the video's a bit poor, but the sound is superb and the you get a great look at how they fill a stage. What's more, the track is an unrecorded track called Albanian that I've never heard before now.

If you've never heard Godspeed You, then you're in for a treat. They are prehaps the closest indie music has come to classical symphony, but without any of the sterile soulessness that classical music suffers from (to me.) Long sweeping pieces that unfold over the length of an album, cinematic soundscapes, grinding power and moments of sublime dreamlike quality. They truly have it all. As they are currently on an indefinite hiatus, it's great to see this and hopefully one day they'll release another record. I hope, I hope, I hope...
