Ike And Tina Turner - Proud Mary Live
If you don't want to hear me drift into wistful recollections, hit the back button now - otherwise, read on. There were a special couple of months in my teenage life when I worked two jobs, and had enough money to have a bit of fun. Every Saturday I'd finish my job selling fruit and veg, throw some notes in my pocket and head off to meet my friend Mr Chicky. We'd always end up being the first people into Cardiff's Sam's Bar (back when it was a real dive) as the doors opened, and were often there on our own for a while. We'd get a couple of pitchers of Iced Tea (whiskey and coke) and sit back and get the staff to play our favourite video of classic rock performances - you could set your clocks by us.
The tape featured everything from The Byrds and the Beach Boys through to classic early Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd. For me, the end of the tape couldn't come soon enough. It wasn't beacause I didn't like the preceeding performances, to the contrary, I loved many of them. The reason was, this following video was the final track on the compilation, and was the best of the lot. Teenage hormones and hot dancing chicks aside, it's a great track, full of energy and soul, and one I haven't seen since the end of the 80s. Nice to see it's been put up on YouTube, and I'm more than happy to see it again. If anything, it sounds even better now than it did back then. Enjoy.
